Christian Counseling

The phrase "Christian Counseling" can encompass various interpretations in describing the nature of the faith based counseling being delivered. For instance, when a pastor integrates counseling into their professional duties, that can be considered a form of Christian Counseling. There are counselors who pursue specialized education focused on biblical principles and completely abstain from modern psychological approaches within their practice. Some Christian counselors blend psychology with faith, using a mix of therapeutic tools and scriptural truths. These examples are obviously not exhaustive examples, there are many other types of “Christian Counseling.” I mention various types of Christian counseling to hopefully shed some light on my own limits and offerings of this practice.

Christian Counseling as described in my practice is rooted in a Biblical theology and framework and maintains a central emphasis on Christ's teachings. Christian Counseling is a journey of discovering how our faith intersects with our struggles. It's about finding hope, healing, and purpose by connecting with our Creator's love and wisdom. I am neither a pastor nor a Biblical scholar of any kind. My academic background in religious studies is somewhat limited to a few college courses taken on religion and multicultural issues. (I also have a few Beth Moore and Dr. Kevin Leman Bible studies under my belt from church.) Most of my knowledge about Christian Counseling is either from being in church, doing Bible studies, going to counseling myself, asking questions and failing … a lot.

What I am is a Christian who can and will incorporate Christianity into my practice. My approach is very simple: if it’s important to you incorporate your Christian faith and morals into your counseling, we can do that. The awesome thing is, we can address the same issues (anger, addiction, marital issues, parenting, depression, etc) as we could with regular talk therapy but in these sessions we can emphasize Christian principles! Don’t worry, it won’t get preachy or judgy, but we will have the opportunity to address anything you like from a spiritual perspective.

This isn't simply about fixing issues; it's about embracing who God destined you to become. As you maneuver through emotions and situations, you're taking charge to unearth your purpose, amplify faith, and foster better connections and relationships. Christian counseling serves up hands-on direction entrenched in faith and Biblical truths, arming you to conquer hurdles while forging a stronger bond with God. It's your toolkit for growth and change. Not gonna lie, growth and change are not easy to do alone. Sometimes I go kicking and screaming out of my comfort zone. My inner 2 year old has a melt down and I realize that I’m not meant to do it alone.

I was raised in the church but quite honestly like many young kids I didn’t stay in the church. I left…sprinted more like it. Learned some hard life lessons, did some dumb stuff, and it was not until I had my own family that I returned to the church. I have been married for over 20 years and raised my kids. I have lived all over the US. There isn’t much I haven’t seen, done , or some how got the t-shirt. My faith is very personal and important to me. I am here to help you when you ‘re ready.
