You are forgiven if you have never heard of brainspotting therapy. However, what you’re missing out on is an opportunity to learn so much more about yourself and to heal from any lagging traumas that have affected your life.

Brainspotting therapy is an innovative therapeutic approach designed to help individuals access and heal unresolved emotional experiences by tapping into the brain-body connection.

What Is Brainspotting Therapy?

Brainspotting is a trauma-focused therapy developed by Dr. David Grand in 2003. The technique is based on the idea that where a person looks can influence how they access emotions, memories, and experiences stored deep within the brain.

During a brainspotting session, a therapist helps identify specific eye positions, known as "brainspots", that may be connected to emotional distress or unresolved trauma. By focusing on these points, clients can access and process experiences that may be difficult to reach through conversation alone.

The Process

Brainspotting works by helping individuals connect with emotions and physical sensations linked to past experiences. A therapist guides the client in locating a brainspot that triggers an emotional or physical response. Once identified, the client maintains focus on that spot while observing thoughts, feelings, and bodily sensations that arise.

This process allows the brain to process and release stored emotional pain in a supportive, nonjudgmental environment. Over time, many individuals experience reduced emotional intensity, greater self-awareness, and improved emotional well-being.
